SINGAPORE – About 2.5 million adult Singaporeans will receive up to S$400 in cash in a special payment in June to provide cost-of-living relief.

In a statement released on Thursday (11 May), the Ministry of Finance (MOF) said that the 2023 Cost-of-Living (COL) Special Payment are for adult citizens with annual assessable incomes of up to S$100,000, regardless of the type of property they live in.

Among of the 2.5 million eligible citizens, about 850,000 senior Singaporeans will also receive up to S$300 in cash under the 2023 COL Seniors; Bonus to provide additional cost-of-living support for seniors.

These payments will be disbursed together in June 2023.

How to know if you are eligible for the 2023 Cost-of-Living Special Payment

Singaporeans may check their eligibility for the 2023 COL Special Payment and 2023 COL Seniors’ Bonus at the official Assurance Package (AP) website by logging in with Singpass.

Eligible recipients will be notified in June after the 2023 COL Special Payment and 2023 COL Seniors’ Bonus have been credited to them, either via their Singpass app inbox or SMS notifications.

The ministry added that to guard against scams, the SMS notification – with “MOF” as the sender – will only be to inform recipients of the benefits. Recipients “will not be asked to reply to the SMS, click any links, or provide any information to the sender”. “There will not be any messages relating to the COL payments sent via WhatsApp or other mobile app messaging platforms,” the MOF said.

The COL Special Payment and COL Seniors Bonus are part of a host of support measures given to Singaporeans as part of an enhanced AP. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong announced during Budget 2023 that the government will enhance the AP by S$3 billion to reach about S$9.6 billion.
