These 5 Firefox Add-Ons Completely Transform Twitch | #firefox | #chrome | #microsoftedge | #hacking | #aihp

Twitch is one of the most visited websites on the internet at the moment, and for good reason. Twitch is a great place to connect with other people and experience video content in a way that you couldn’t anywhere else.

But what if Twitch could be better? Nobody’s under any illusions that Twitch is a perfect website, and there are plenty of Firefox add-ons which can help you to try and fix whatever problems you might be having with Twitch. Here are five of the very best for you to try.

No list of Twitch extensions would be complete without BetterTTV, which is why it’s the add-on that’s leading off this list.

If you’re unaware, BetterTTV is probably the most popular Twitch extension in existence. At its core, it mostly adds new features and new emotes, but in actuality, it does so much more.

If you’ve ever looked for ways to get more emotes on Twitch, BetterTTV is one of the easiest and best ways to do just that.

BetterTTV lets you get access to whole new emotes on both a global and per-channel basis. If you ever see people spamming emotes in chat that you can’t see, it’s probably because they have BetterTTV.

But BetterTTV is so much more than just a way to get more emotes. BetterTTV adds a whole lot of extra features to Twitch that are simply missing. For example, you can set up BetterTTV to highlight certain phrases, words, or even usernames if you’re looking for a certain type of message.

You can use BetterTTV to similarly blacklist certain words and phrases if you don’t want to see them. BetterTTV lets you see deleted messages and links as well, and lets you anonymously join channels without having your username appear in the list. It’s perfect if you’d rather just be a lurker.

There are plenty more features than those listed here, and you can mix and match them as you see fit, enabling and disabling whatever you want to curate your Twitch experience to be just how you want it.

Next up on this list comes Video Ad-Block. This Firefox add-on does about exactly what you might expect from it–it makes it so that you no longer have to watch ads on Twitch.

The approach that Video Ad-Block takes to making sure that you don’t have to watch ads on Twitch is a little different from some other extensions that do similar things. Video Ad-Block does everything locally, meaning that there are no proxies or third-party services being used to avoid the ad.

Instead, Video Ad-Block switches your stream to a 480p version without any ads. As soon as the ad has passed, the extension then automatically switches the stream back to the viewing quality you were using before the swap.

The extension itself does ask for a lot of permissions when you first install it. But, the entire project is entirely open source and doesn’t collect any information about your viewing habits or the like, so there’s little reason to worry.

If you merely want more emotes for Twitch and nothing else, then 7TV is a great add-on that can give you just that. All you need to do is install, and you’ll have access to a wide array of different new emote options.

What’s cool about 7TV is that it integrates so well with both BetterTTV and FrankerFaceZ. The extension kind of expects that you’ve got both installed already, and instead of trying to fight against these extensions, it chooses to work with them instead.

You’ll find an emote menu at the bottom of your chatbox with the 7TV logo, which if you click will show you the global and channel emotes that you can use on any given stream. This emote menu integrates with both BetterTTV and FrankerFaceZ, so you can see their global and channel emotes as well.

What’s great about this is that it reduces the number of twitch chat commands that you’ll need to know when browsing, since everything is already available as a menu for you.

7TV also comes with a couple of quality of life options that you can choose to enable as well. For example, you can enable a bypass for “message is identical” notices by having 7TV automatically add an extra space at the end of your duplicate message. Perfect if you want to spam.

Next up we have User-Agent Switcher and Manager. This add-on may not be an extension built specifically with Twitch in mind, but it remains incredibly useful all the same.

User-Agent Switcher and Manager is a Firefox add-on which lets you edit your user-agent string to be whatever you want. This means that you can tell websites that you’re browsing on mobile, for example, or that you’re using a different browser or operating system as you visit.

On the surface, this lets you do things like tell Twitch that you’re viewing on a mobile device in order to decrease load times and bandwidth consumption. But where this really shines is that it allows you to adjust the way that Twitch interacts with you in the form of ads and recommendations.

By adjusting how Twitch sees your device, you’re adjusting how Twitch tries to impact what you see, which is a powerful tool indeed.

If you’ve never particularly liked Twitch’s layout or just want to try something new, then Alternate Player for Twitch is an excellent choice to do just that.

Alternate Player for Twitch changes the way that Twitch displays its video viewer for you. The new layout is smoother and less obtrusive, and has some other interesting features as well.

For example, Alternate Player for Twitch automatically opens chests and collects channel points for you in chat. The chat is larger, letting you see more messages and emotes, and you can disable chat just as easily.

The player also claims to start up more quickly and takes up less RAM as well, amongst a long list of other benefits and features.

These Extensions Can Change Twitch for Good

Hopefully, you’ve found a couple of great extensions on this list to take your Twitch viewing experience to the next level. All you need to do is plug them into your Firefox browser, install them, and you’re good to go.
