September Update Live For Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4 & Flip 4 | #android | #security | #hacking | #aihp

Samsung has released the September 2022 Android security patch for the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4. The latest Galaxy foldables are a little late to the party as most other Galaxy devices have already received the September update. Some have even made the jump to the October SMR (Security Maintenance Release). But since these are new devices, the company may have had to make some critical optimizations, thus delaying the update.

Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4 get September update

As of this writing, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 are receiving the September SMR in some Asia and South Korea. The new firmware version for the phones in Samsung’s homeland is F936NKSU1AVIG and F721NKSU1AVIA, respectively. Of course, the build number may vary according to the phone’s model, carrier, and region. But more importantly, the new Samsung foldables are getting this month’s vulnerability fixes.

Samsung has already detailed the content of the September SMR. It contains fixes for over 50 vulnerabilities. These include around two dozen high-risk Android OS vulnerability patches from Google. The rest 30-odd patches are for issues with Samsung’s software and device components. In its monthly security bulletin, the firm mentions vulnerabilities in Phone Editor, Video Editor, System UI, and many other apps, services, and components.

The official changelog for the latest update for the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 also lists some undetailed system stability improvements. These should be software optimizations that Samsung usually pushes to new devices for the first few months after release. The new foldables aren’t getting any new features, though. Having debuted with Android 12-based One UI 4.1.1 last month, they should get Android 13 with One UI 5.0 before the end of this year. Samsung is currently beta testing the new software and is expected to begin stable release in October. We will keep you posted.

Meanwhile, if you’re one of those early buyers of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 foldables, the September security patch is now headed your way. You should get the update within the next few days if you haven’t already. Your phone will prompt you to download the new software package once it is available over the air (OTA). You can also navigate to Settings > Software update and tap on Download and install to manually trigger the update. If you don’t see any pending OTA updates here, check back again a few days later.
