Fortune Seller A TV Scam is a true-crime docuseries that is set to be released on Netflix, this month. It tells the incredible story of Wanna Marchi, the biggest scammer in the history of Italian Television, and her empire of money and lies. The series is directed by Nicola Prosatore and the screenplay for the series is written by Alessandro Garramone.

The biographical documentary is said to have four episodes in total. The show centres on Wanna Marchi, who was very popular in the eighties and nineties, so much so that she was nicknamed ‘queen of teleshopping.’ She along with her daughter, Stefania Nobile, made millions by selling everything from slimming cream to amulets for protection against evil, to lucky numbers.

The main cast featured in the series includes Wanna Marchi and her daughter Stefania Nobile who recount the whole experience from their perspective. Along with the TV producers and crew that worked with them on the telemarketing show and journalists who kept the track of all the developments in the scamming case.

The official synopsis of the series reads, “Savvy saleswomen or devious scammers? Wanna Marchi and Stefania Nobile became the undisputed queens of Italian TV shopping — until they went too far.” It is a crime docu-series, filled with pop culture references, that explores the known and unknown elements of Wanna Marchi and a historical moment in the history of Italian TV.

The trailer shows how the 80s was the time with booming telemarketing shows and hosts who would scream, shout, sing and dance to get viewers’ attention and sell the product. Likewise, Wanna Marchi had her own more way where she would straight away call out viewers on their insecurities like weight or wealth and sell them a solution, which lured them.

She made billions by selling anything and everything. Eventually, she ended up with her daughter Stefania Nobile in serious legal trouble and then in prison for fraud and extortion, which labelled her as a scam artist. Now she is retelling the whole story of how it happened and what she thinks of it.
