October Update Live For Samsung’s Galaxy S20 FE LTE | #android | #security | #hacking | #aihp

The October 2022 Android security patch is live for the 4G LTE variant of Samsung‘s Galaxy S20 FE. The 5G model picked up the latest security update a few days back. The new SMR (Security Maintenance Release) has also been rolled out to several other Galaxy devices over the past week.

Galaxy S20 FE LTE also gets the October security update

As of this writing, the Galaxy S20 FE LTE is receiving the October SMR in Australia and a few Asian countries, namely Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand. The new firmware version for the phone is G780GXXU3CVI4. A wider rollout should follow in the coming days. The LTE variant of the Fan Edition model was also sold in Europe, Africa, and Latin America. Samsung only released the 5G model in the US and it is still awaiting the October update as the rollout has yet to go global.

The October SMR for Galaxy devices patches over 50 vulnerabilities. Samsung’s official monthly security bulletin mentions fixes for one critical and about 30 high-risk vulnerabilities discovered in Android OS and patched by Google. Additionally, the Koren firm took care of 18 Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE) items this month. These are privacy and security threats that only affect Galaxy devices. SVEs patched this month include a critical issue that allowed unauthorized access to secure memory. Samsung hasn’t detailed some patches for security reasons.

If you’re using either of the Galaxy S20 FE LTE and Galaxy S20 FE 5G and haven’t yet received the October update, it shouldn’t be a much longer wait now. As always, the update will be rolled out in batches and the availability will vary by market. You should get a notification once the update package hits your unit. You can also go to the Software update section in the Settings app and tap on the Download and install option to check for updates manually. If you don’t see any update, check again a few days later.

This phone will get Android 13

Samsung launched the Galaxy S20 FE in September 2020 running Android 10 out of the box. The phone has since received updates to Android 11 and Android 12. It will also get Android 13, which will bring the Korean firm’s One UI 5.0 custom software and may come later this year or early next year. It will be the last major Android OS update for the phone. We will let you know when the Android 13 rollout for the Galaxy S20 FE begins.
