NASCAR opened an investigation; Comments on Wallace using his middle finger on TV

Over the weekend, NASCAR returned to North Wilkesboro Speedway. The famed North Carolina short track rose from the grave to host the NASCAR All-Star Race paying $1M to the NASCAR Cup Series winner.

Hear from NASCAR below.

Bubba Wallace drove to a 2nd place run. It was his best career finish in the All-Star Race. Unfortunately, after the driver climbed from the car, that’s when the headlines began.

First, at the start of Wallace’s tv interview the driver was seen using his middle finger. He threw the finger will simultaneously connecting the collar on his racing suit.

NASCAR has spoken to Wallace on that incident. They claim that Wallace was gesturing to a friend that was walking by behind the camera.

A weekly penalty report was issued. Bubba Wallace was not included.

“The gesture, we talked with the race team and we’ll continue to have dialogue with Bubba,” NASCAR’s Elton Sawyer opened via Sirius XM NASCAR Radio.

“Actually, it was a gesture to one of his friends walking by. Timing obviously, was not ideal and Bubba knows that.”

Sawyer confirmed “But, there’s no penalty for that.”

Also after the race, it appears fans were able to hijack the audio of the 23XI Racing team. Several racial messages were relayed over the team radio.

In this case, Wallace had already climbed from the machine. Wallace did not hear the messages that were sent across the team channel.

NASCAR says they’re investigating the situation…

“We are taking a deeper dive into investigating the whole radio transmission there,” Sawyer added.

“Figuring out exactly what happened. How it happened. How do we fix that?”

“Still more work on our side to be done on that topic.”
