Microsoft and OpenAI expose AI-powered hacking groups | #cybercrime | #computerhacker

Cybersecurity is a never-ending game of cat and mouse, and hackers are getting smarter with the help of artificial intelligence. Microsoft and OpenAI have revealed that state-sponsored cybercriminals use large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT to enhance their hacking skills and techniques.

In a new research paper, the tech giants have exposed how hackers from Russia, North Korea, Iran, and China use LLMs for various purposes, such as researching targets, improving scripts, and crafting social engineering tactics. LLMs are powerful AI tools that can generate natural language texts based on a given input or prompt.

“The objective of Microsoft’s partnership with OpenAI, including the release of this research, is to ensure the safe and responsible use of AI technologies like ChatGPT, upholding the highest standards of ethical application to protect the community from potential misuse,” it said in its paper.
