Greensburg, IN — The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office is reporting about a fraud alert that is currently taking place on Facebook Marketplace. Authorities say that there have been two reported cases of cars being sold via Facebook Marketplace. However, the purchase of the vehicles has been made with fraudulent money orders from United Dairy Farmers by men from Ohio.

Victims of this scam are not getting the names of the suspects nor confirming identities during the transaction. Fake accounts on Facebook are common and when tracked, the Sheriff’s Office is not always able to confirm the identity of the persons running the page or profile.  The Sheriff’s office asks that citizens use caution when buying or selling on Marketplace or any other online selling app.

If you have been a victim of a scam, please contact the Decatur County Communications Center to report it. They can be reached on their non-emergency line at 812-222-4911.
