‘FedEx’ scam: Cyber helpline recovers Rs 35 lakh transferred by SoBo businessman to fraudsters | Mumbai News | #cybercrime | #computerhacker


An officer said that on Saturday the victim received a call from the accused who claimed to be a cop.

THE MUMBAI police cyber helpline number 1930 on Thursday managed to save Rs 35 lakh that cyber fraudsters had asked a south Mumbai-based businessman to transferring into their accounts by posing as cops. The money could be saved as the complainant called up the helpline number soon after which the police managed to freeze the accounts where the fraudsters had transferred the money.

An officer said that on Saturday the victim received a call from the accused who claimed to be a cop. He told the complainant that a FedEx parcel that had been sent to him was intercepted and some contraband was found in it. The accused then claimed that they have found some illegal dealings in the accounts of the victim and that he would be arrested if he did not settle the matter with them.

The accused then transferred Rs 35.12 lakh to the account number provided by the accused. However, later he realised that he had been duped following which he called up the cyber helpline 1930 number. The helpline then approached the national cyber crime portal which put a freeze on the accounts where the money had been transferred thereby retrieving the entire amount.
