Cybercrime Police Stations: Punjab Cybercrime Police Stations Initiative by State Government | Chandigarh News | #cybercrime | #computerhacker


Chandigarh: Punjab government is all set to establish cybercrime police stations in 28 districts, including three police commissionerates.Punjab police chief Gaurav Yadav said that recognising the critical need to address the challenge of cybercrime effectively, the police department has sent a proposal to strengthen its cybercrime investigation infrastructure capabilities. He said CM Bhagwant Mann has cleared the proposal to set up cybercrime police stations that will serve as dedicated hubs for investigating and combating cyber-related offences including online financial fraud, identity theft, cyber bullying, and hacking.DGP Yadav said the police stations will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology and staffed by highly trained personnel specialised in digital forensics and cybercrime investigation. These police stations will work under the supervision of the concerned district SSP or commissioner of police and overall monitored by the ADGP cybercrime. Currently, one cybercrime police station is operational in the state, which was notified in 2009.The state police chief said that to augment the capabilities of police in cybercrime investigations, the chief minister has also sanctioned a fund of Rs 30 crore for the upgradation of digital investigation training and analysis centre at state cybercrime division and cybercrime investigation and technical support units at district level.ADGP cybercrime V Neeraja said that criminals are taking advantage of digitalization to target weakness in online infrastructure impacting individuals and businesses. The youth on social media platforms and senior citizens who access digital content are also vulnerable to cyber frauds, she added. Meanwhile, helpline number 1930 has been functioning round the clock at the state cybercrime office to receive calls on online financial frauds.
