Cybercrime: CID and Bengal Police Launch Interactive Session on YouTube to Help You Rebuff Cyber Crooks | Kolkata News | #cybercrime | #computerhacker

Kolkata: The CID and Bengal Police on Friday launched a programme on its new YouTube channel to spread awareness on cybercrime and how to tackle crooks stalking the internet. In the interactive session, to be held on Fridays, the CID’s OC Cyber and his colleagues will share information on cybercrimes—new as well as old—how to ward off fraudsters’ conning attempt and will also field questions from citizens and try to address their queries. The discussion will also be telecast on the West Bengal Police Facebook page every Friday. The first episode, which was aired at 6 pm and led by OC Barun Kumar Nayak and sub-inspector Ishani Mandal, focused on some of the oft-used cybercrime modus operandi when two-factor authentication is not followed for digital devices. The session followed a script, complete with an anecdote, rather than rattling off dos and don’ts. “Police’s aim is to reach out to as many people as possible,” said a senior Bhabani Bhawan officer. A video to raise awareness on current cybercrime modus operandi had recently earned Kolkata Police its first million viewership on its FB page, which inspired the CID and state police to plan on similar lines. In the KP video, inspector Shukla Sinha Roy Bhattacharya of Lalbazar Cyber Police had spoken about how people were being conned via Telegram and YouTube.A CID officer indicated they, too, intended to prepare short and interactive videos. “The short live videos have high recall value provided they are explained in simple language for everyone to understand,” he said. The officer, however, pointed out that the number of interactive sessions would depend on the response they elicit. “We will see how serious queries can be addressed. Mere accusations can’t be entertained. Also we will have to see how to handle the huge traffic of callers,” he said.On Friday, the CID and KP also released separate videos and posters, warning citizens against being lured “by easy money”. Kolkata Cyber Cell explained the various modus operandi.
