The Rajshahi Cyber Tribunal on Wednesday sentenced a youth to six years in jail in a case filed under the Digital Security Act, 2018, for sharing offensive videos and pictures of a woman on social media in 2022.

Judge Md Ziaur Rahman delivered the verdict in the case against Mizan Ali alias Tuhin, 26, a resident of village Krishnachandrapur under Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj, said public prosecutor Ismat Are Begem.

She said that the tribunal also fined the convict Tk 3 lakh or nine more months in jail in default.

According to the prosecution, Mizan, a former classmate and friend of the victim, recorded some videos and captured pictures of the woman secretly when they used to attend classes and various meetings.

When the woman refused Mizan’s proposal to have an affair with him and married another person, the convict created a fake Facebook account using the woman and her husband’s picture and published some edited offensive videos and pictures of her.

Later, the woman filed a case with the cyber tribunal against Mizan under the Digital Security Act.
