Woburn High School Awarded Innovation Pathways Grant | #education | #technology | #training | #hacking | #aihp

WOBURN – Superintendent Matthew Crowley is pleased to announce that Woburn High School is one of 22 high schools in Massachusetts that was awarded grant funding to support its Innovation Pathway program. 

Woburn High School was awarded $41,250 from the Baker-Polito Administration that will provide free tuition for 10 Woburn students to attend a summer advanced manufacturing program at the Center for Manufacturing Technology, located in Woburn. 

The students will take part in a five-week program and, upon completion, will have earned entry-level certification in manufacturing that will open paths to employment, continued training and post-secondary education. 

“We are equal parts excited and grateful to receive this grant funding, which will provide a critical opportunity to 10 of our students to further explore the manufacturing sector and strengthen their credentials,” Superintendent Crowley said. “This program provides an essential head start for students working toward their career and educational goals.”

The Baker-Polito Administration launched these early career programs in 2017 to help students develop knowledge and skills related to a chosen field of study before they graduate high school. To date, 49 high schools across the Commonwealth have designated Innovation Pathways, totaling 121 different programs. Innovation Pathways differ from its sister program – Early College – in that students focus on a specific industry sector, with greater emphasis on career exploration, technical courses, work-based learning experiences and industry-recognized credentials, rather than college credit courses and college planning.

“These programs provide students with hands-on skills learning and access to opportunities for future success in high-demand fields,”said Governor Charlie Baker. “The expansion of Innovation Pathways will allow more students to gain knowledge and work experiences that prepare them for successful careers before they graduate high school.”
