JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. – A global threat analyst said people living in Jacksonville Beach should assume their information is now in the hands of cybercriminals. The city of Jacksonville Beach was hacked at the end of January, and a Russian-based cyber gang called LOCKBIT was believed to be responsible.

The incident could impact up to 50,000 people and their social security numbers and other personal data could be compromised. LOCKBIT is a well-known group of sophisticated cyberthieves and they listed local residents’ personal information on their site on Feb. 12, before being broken up by an international police operation.
