ROSS TWP., PA — Watch out for certain signs that may indicate a new love interest is scamming you, Ross Township Police said this week.
In a romance or online dating scam, cybercriminals pretend to start a relationship with someone to get money from them, township police said.
Here are some things to look out for, police said:

- The person lives far away.
- Their profile seems too good to be true.
- The person starts asking for money, and giving emotional reasons (family emergencies, debts, or surgeries).
- They move the relationship fast, declaring love and promising to get together.
- They keep making excuses for not seeing you in person, sometimes at the last minute.
- They want to send you money to deposit in your bank account.
Police said that if you suspect you have been scammed, contact your bank right away, notify the online dating platform you were using, file a report with local police, and report the scam to the Federal Trade Commission.
