Toei Animation Hack Revealed As Ransomware Attack | #malware | #ransomware | #hacking | #aihp

Approximately one month after the Toei animation hack took place, we received some new information. If you haven’t heard, it was announced on March 11 that Toei animation was struck by a damaging hack that essentially shut down their services for a time. As a result, multiple anime projects were affected. One Piece, Digimon, and Dragon Ball Super, to name a few. Further, it seems this wasn’t just a random hack. Toei Animation has confirmed that this was a targeted ransomware hack. As a result, the studio was unable to access their system much at all. Unfortunately, Toei still doesn’t know who started this ransomware attack.

Toei Is Putting the Pieces Back Together

Investigations may still be underway, but that doesn’t mean Toei will never recover. Things are already starting to get back on track. A couple of days ago, it was announced that One Piece would be returning very soon. With things right in the middle of the Wano arc, the wait has been devastating for fans. It is the longest (and some say best) arc in One Piece so far. So, the news that it would need to stop due to this ransomware attack at Toei was formidable indeed.

On the other hand, it isn’t all great news. Toei Animation believes that this ransomware hack has made it so certain assets may never be returned to them. The Dragon Ball Super movie is also still damaged, thanks to the attack. No wonder there was such a long delay at hand. And again, no sign of the assaulters of this cybercrime has been found. Since cybercrime is some of the toughest to track, we may never know the would-be destroyers of an anime empire. Toei hopes for the best, so their popular anime may continue to be broadcast to fans worldwide.
