A threat scam circulating targets your family and is designed to scare you into acting quickly to protect your loved ones without you thinking rationally.A WGAL viewer checked his emotions and saved himself from this scam.He wrote in an email to News 8 On Your Side, “I got a call from a man who was supposedly my son who was involved in a car accident. He was arrested and was in tears and could barely talk.”Then the supposed lawyer called with many details, including injuries to my son and the bond that was needed for his release. We immediately got ready to head to the bank. “The lawyer said they took my son’s phone, so I thought, ‘Let’s call him on his phone and see.’ “My son answered at work. He was not in tears. He was fine, as was everyone in his family.”Scams like this work when they manipulate your emotions. They either make you very happy – by telling you that you’ve won money or some sort of other prize – or they scare and threaten you.Fortunately, this viewer controlled his emotions and made the smart move.
