(KNSI) – An area event is looking to attract the curious this Thursday evening.

TEDx St. Cloud runs from 6:30 to 9:00 at the Paramount Theatre, featuring six speakers and two artists covering a range of topics. One of Minnesota’s most famous crimes will be in the spotlight. Patty Wetterling is one of the presenters. She will talk about her advocacy for child safety. Wetterling helped push for the national sex offender registry after her 11-year-old son, Jacob, was abducted and killed in October 1989.

Wetterling has served on the board for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and consulted with the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention at the U.S. Department of Justice.

Anisa Hagi-Mohamed is a true American success story. The Somali-American was just two years old when civil war broke out in her home country. Anisa’s family moved to the U.S. three years later. She now has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in linguistics and is an author.

Other speakers include CentraCare M Physicians orthopedic surgeon Kyle Martin, Bionic Giant Chief Technology Officer Tim Bornholdt, St. Cloud Public Services Director Tracy Hodel, and wildlife guide Zach Fritz. Stroia Dance Studios Executive Director Alicia Le and musician Terry Vermillion are also scheduled.

A link to buy tickets and more information about each participant is here. There is a pre-event reception starting at 5:00 at The Regency.
