Sabah committed to combating cybercrime alongside Federal: Hajiji

Kota Kinabalu: The State Government is committed to working together with the Federal Government and related agencies in combating cybercrime, especially financial crime and scams which are still on the rise in Sabah.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said based on statistics from the Sabah Police Commercial Crime Investigation Department, the number of cybercrime cases in Sabah showed an increasing trend in the last three years.
From 2020 to September 2023, a total of 4,687 cases were reported, involving phone scams, love scams, bogus loans, investments, online purchases and computer crimes, amounting to total losses of RM100,087,125.10.
“Out of 4,687 cases, a total of 1,069 cybercrime cases were reported in 2020 while 1,169 cases in 2021; 1,206 in 2022 and as many as 1,243 cases from January to September this year,” he said in a speech read at an anti-scam event here.
