A police team from Haryana was attacked by a mob in Patna, after people mistook them to be kidnappers. The team had arrived in Patna to arrest Sunil Kumar, a cybercrime accused, and were dressed in civil clothes.
The police team from Haryana, comprising of six people, raided Sunil’s house in Patna and arrested him. However, in order to evade arrest, Sunil started shouting for help from people and alleged that the police were actually kidnappers.
Since the police team was not in uniform, locals around believed Sunil and started attacking the police officials. Five police personnel managed to free themselves from the mob and also stopped Sunil from escaping.
However, a sub-inspector, remained caught up in the mob of over dozens of people and was badly injured. When local police were apprised about the incident, the cop was rescued from the mob.
DSP Law and Order Krishna Murari Gupta, however, said that the police team from Haryana had not informed local police in Patna that they had arrived to arrest Sunil.
“Without informing the Patna Police, the Haryana Police went straight to arrest Sunil. After Sunil made noise and lied about the cops being kidnappers, a mob attacked the police officials,” DSP Gupta said.
Sunil Kumar is a resident of Bihar and is accused of duping dozens of people of crores of rupees in the name of providing them jobs in the army recruitment in Haryana.
In this regard, a case was registered at the Charkhi Dadri cyber police station of Haryana in 2022.
Sunil has been arrested by Haryana Police and the injured sub-inspector is being treated. An investigation is underway in connection with the attack on the police.
