NORWALK — A New Jersey man wanted for failing to register as a sexual offender, among other charges, was apprehended at a Norwalk hotel Thursday, police said.
Juan Marales, 41, of Edison, N.J., was taken into custody without incident at the Red Carpet Inn on Westport Avenue, police Lt. Tomasz Podgorski said in a news release Friday.
The Fugitive Task Force from the prosecutor’s office at Somerset County, N.J., contacted the Norwalk Police Department Thursday asking for help to find a wanted fugitive, Podgorski said.
Marales was wanted on five active arrest warrants charging him with second-degree burglary, two counts of third-degree failure to register as a sexual offender, second-degree endangering/abuse/neglect of a child and third-degree aggravated assault on a correctional or sheriff’s officer, according to Podgorski.
Marales was charged out of Norwalk as a fugitive from justice. He was held in lieu of $1 million bail and is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 19, Podgorski said.
