JAKARTA Recently there has been a cyberattack that befell Remilia, a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) that manages the NFT Association of Makers. Remilia founder Krishna Okhandiar or better known as Charlotte Fang announced a hacking incident resulting in the large number of illegal transfers of Ether and non-fungible tokens (NFT).
This incident came to light when DAMPster DAO shared screenshots from Fang stating the loss of his digital assets. Blockchain records show that hackers have sold several NFT Laughs, including those on NFTx, and transferred Ether worth $1 million to another address that now has nearly the same amount in Ether and various other tokens.
While hacking methods remain a mystery, reported by Cryptonews, blockchain security firm PeckShild indicated suspicious transactions from Remilia’s cash wallet to the address involved in the incident. In September 2023, Fang revealed that a developer had transferred about $1 million (approximately IDR 15.685 billion) in costs from Remilia Corporation.
The NFT totaling, which was launched in 2021, was in the spotlight after Tesla CEO Elon Musk shared a meme featuring images from the collection in May 2023. This triggered the surge in NFT GROWth prices from 3.8 ETH to 7.8 ETH.
The attacks experienced by Remilia were only one of many incidents that marked an increase in hacking in the crypto industry, particularly in the decentralized financial application (DeFi) sector. The Immunefi report said a total loss of US$1.8 billion (approximately Rp28.2 trillion) due to hacking and crypto fraud in 2023, with 17% of losses attributed to the Lazarus Group from North Korea.
Recently, the Shido token plunged 85% after its staking contract was exploited, and the Serenity Shield, a multi-chain data storage startup, saw a theft resulting in a loss of 38.9 million US dollars (approximately Rp610 billion) from various Web3 projects in early 2024.
