Nest Hub will now display birthday countdown cards | #firefox | #chrome | #microsoftedge | #hacking | #aihp

In an update that’s already rolling out, your Nest Hub will now display a cute birthday card at the top-right of its display when someone in your Google Contacts or Family Group has a birthday coming up. The company announced this on short notice via Twitter, but it was accompanied by an update on the Google Nest Help center.

The card will show a countdown like that seen in the tweet above, and it will also have a graphic with a bear and presents. In order to get this to show up post update, you’ll need to be sure to allow personal results on your Google Account. Once you’ve done so, just set them to “Always display proactively”, and then you’ll see the card appear – assuming a birthday is on the horizon, that is.

At this time, this will only work on devices set to English. Toggle on birthdays by going to the Home app, tapping your profile image, and going to “Assistant settings > You > Your people“. From there, just tap an individual who you’d like to set a birthday for and tap “Birthday“, choose a date, and tap “Okay” before saving. You can also remove birthdays this way by reversing the above steps.

Another neat feature for birthday cards is that you can choose to only show them when you and you alone walk up to your display by having Face Match enabled. If you’d like to hide a card, just press and hold it, and tap “Dismiss”. This is a small update, but a welcome one, especially as more families use Nest Hub and as Google caters to this audience with many quality of life improvements.
