The 46-year-old complainant, a Vile Parle resident, had lodged an FIR on April 7 with the police against the accused for cheating, forgery and identity theft. The complainant told police that she had received a WhatsApp message from a woman, who identified herself as Diyva. The fraudster, who claimed to be from Youtube marketing, told the complainant that she would have to like and subscribe to some YouTube channels. Divya communicated with the complainant through Telegram messages, said police. The accused asked the complainant to share her bank account details for sending money to her once she completes the job assigned to her. Soon after she finished her assignments, she received some money in her bank account. The accused then shared a link with the complainant and asked her to create her login ID and password. After filling in the details, she could see a virtual wallet in her name in the link.
The accused then asked the complainant to invest in the business, promising her a 30% to 40% profit. She invested in the scheme and could see her initial profit in the wallet. However, when she tried to transfer money from wallet to her bank account, she couldn’t. When she enquired about it, the fraudsters again demanded money from her. This is when she felt something amiss, but by then she had already paid them Rs 10.67 lakh. The fashion designer then lodged an FIR. “Money was received in the two accused’s accounts and they were arrested. Panchal was earlier arrested by the Gujarat police in a cheating case. Rs 6 lakh in the accounts of the accused has been frozen,” said police.
