Lagos police set to partner NFIU against cybercrime – Blueprint Newspapers Limited | #cybercrime | #computerhacker


The Lagos state Police Command, a leading command in Complaints Response Unit (CRU) establishment in Nigeria, has again pegged its partnership with the office of the Nigerian Finance and Intelligence Unit (NFIU) to tackle the menace of cybercrimes in Lagos.

The partnership was established Friday during a monthly strategic meeting of field officers and strategic officers of the Lagos state Police Command held at the police officers mess, GRA, Ikeja Lagos.

Speaking with journalists at the event, the Commissioner of Police, CP Idowu Owohunwa, disclosed that he drew on “our professional expertise in order to fashion new approaches, dissect the strategy and fashion the problems and dissect the present new strategies that will further enhance our capacity to police Lagos states.”

He said “in this case, the Command has written formally to the director and the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) drawing his attention to the unique nature of the internal security dynamics in Lagos, particularly in relation to e-crimes.

He said, “In fact, today, there’s virtually no crime that is not driven by some form of financial activities, electronic activity digital crimes, so the best way I feel we can stay ahead both in terms of detection, prevention, investigation and successful prosecution of these cases is to leverage on the unique assets of the NFIU.

“By my privileged position as the PSO to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), we tried to use this opportunity and leveraged on it and to the glory of God, with deep appreciation, our request letter was given approval and not only approved letter, he also deployed instantly to our Command.”
