GIRIDIH: A strange case of fraud has emerged in Jharkhand’s Giridih district. On Monday, nine individuals were arrested after a peculiar fake call center engaged in scamming pregnant women was busted. The police revealed that the call center was operating from a newly constructed house in the Panchamba police station area.
Superintendent of Police Deepak Kumar Sharma explained that the accused used to target pregnant women in the guise of providing them with the benefits of government welfare schemes and would siphon off money from their bank accounts.
According to SP Deepak Kumar Sharma, apart from cheating pregnant women, the scammers also targeted electricity consumers, manipulating them into making payments for their bills. Sharma mentioned that a team led by DSP (Cyber) Sandeep Suman conducted a raid at the house, leading to the apprehension of seven individuals. Based on information obtained during the interrogation of those arrested, two more individuals were subsequently taken into custody. The items confiscated during the raid include 16 mobile phones, 25 SIM cards, four ATM cards, six passbooks, two checkbooks, three QR codes, and two motorcycles.
