*This report is updated as of 9 p.m. with information released by the Freehold Township School District about classes being held Tuesday.

Classes are scheduled to resume Tuesday Freehold Township schools will reopen Tuesday following a “cybersecurity incident” that led to a shutdown on Monday.

In a statement released Monday night to the school community the district said its IT team will be working through the night on the affected access to network systems “crucial for daily operations.”    If critical systems are not working properly a decision to close for a second day will be made by Tuesday at 6 a.m.

Before and after-school activities are canceled.

“Our immediate and unwavering priority has been to assess the impact, identify the root causes and implement measures to fully remediate and restore operations,” read the statement.

The IT team is working with independent cybersecurity firm to assist in an investiagtion and restoration efforts.

Some changes in place for now

Several restrictions will be in place at schools on Tuesday because of the incident.

  • Students should leave their Chromebooks home
  • The only communication available to school offices will be telephone
  • No email communication is available

Parents were notified late Sunday night that all classes would be canceled due to “technical issues to a cybersecurity incident in our network environment.”

School officials on Monday did not disclose any additional information about the incident including the extent of the impact on school functions.

Questions about the incident for law enforcement were referred to the district.

Several parents in a Facebook parent group were concerned about the number of snow days used by the district so far this year and how additional days missed will be made up.

Freehold Township High School, which is part of the Freehold Regional High School School District, is not affected by the incident.
