Hacking Group: Israel-linked hackers launch cyberattack, disable gas stations across Iran | #hacking | #cybersecurity | #infosec | #comptia | #pentest | #hacker | #hacking | #aihp

NEW DELHI: A hacking group with reported ties to Israel and identified as “Gonjeshke Darande” or “predatory sparrow” has claimed responsibility for a cyberattack that allegedly paralysed gas stations across Iran.
According to the group, a significant number of gas pumps throughout Iran were rendered inoperable as a response to what they perceive as the Islamic Republic’s aggression and its regional proxies against Tel Aviv since the October 7 attack by Hamas.
The group issued statements in both Persian and English, warning of consequences for the actions of Iran’s leadership, particularly mentioning Ayatollah Khamenei. “Khamenei, playing with fire has a price,” the hacker group said, as per a report by The Times of Israel.

In a post on X, the hacker group said: “We, the “predatory sparrow” group once again targeted the national fuel supply system of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Khamenei! As we mentioned before, we will react against your evil provocations in the region.”
Iranian state media confirmed that several gas stations in Tehran had ceased operations, though the cause remained unclear.

The cyberattack follows previous claims by “Gonjeshke Darande” targeting major steel companies in Iran.

In a prior incident, Israeli military correspondents, who receive regular off-the-record briefings from senior Israeli officials, hinted at Israel’s involvement in the cyberattack on Iran’s steel industry, The Times of Israel reported.
This development occurs amid heightened tensions in the region, with Iran-backed proxies like Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Houthis in Yemen increasing attacks against Israel, particularly in the aftermath of the conflict with Hamas.
