The federal government has launched the National Cybercrime Investigation Agency (NCIA), replacing the FIA Cybercrime Wing.

This new entity inherits the responsibilities of its predecessor but with an expanded mandate to combat and investigate cybercrimes.

A formal notification has been issued to establish the NCIA, which will operate under the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication.

The agency’s scope includes investigating and prosecuting cybercrimes such as hacking, online fraud, and digital terrorism.

To ensure a smooth transition, personnel and cases from the FIA Cybercrime Wing have been transferred to the NCIA, which will operate under defined rules empowering it to take decisive action against cybercriminals.

The establishment of the National Cybercrime Investigation Agency underscores the government’s dedication to protecting citizens from cyber threats and promoting cybersecurity initiatives nationwide.
