Galaxy S20, S20 FE & S21 FE Get May Update In The US | #android | #security | #hacking | #aihp

Samsung last week began rolling out the May 2022 Android security patch to the international versions of the Galaxy S20 series. The new security update has now reached the US version of the phones as well. The Galaxy S21 FE and the Galaxy S20 FE are also now receiving the latest SMR (Security Maintenance Release) stateside.

As of this writing, the May SMR for the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra is limited to unlocked units. But it shouldn’t be long before their carrier-locked counterparts join the party too. The update comes with firmware version G98*U1UES2EVE1 for the unlocked phones. The OTA (over the air) package is already available on most carrier networks, including AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon. Users on the remaining few carriers should also get the update soon.

The new update for the Galaxy S20 FE and Galaxy S21 FE is also only available on unlocked units as of now. The updated firmware version for the two affordable Galaxy flagships is G781U1UES7EVD4 and G990U1UES3CVD3, respectively. This update is also already available widely across all major networks. Users with a carrier-locked Galaxy S20 FE or S21 FE can look forward to this update in the coming days.

In addition to these phones, the May SMR is now also rolling out to Galaxy Note 10 Lite. The cheapest S Pen wielding offering from Samsung is currently picking up the latest security update in Ecuador and Peru, SamMobile has confirmed. The rollout should reach more markets within the next week or so. Watch out for an OTA release with firmware version N770FXXU8GVD2.

May security update is rapidly reaching Samsung devices globally

It’s been more than two weeks since Samsung started rolling out the May SMR to its devices. Last week, the company revealed that the latest security patch contains fixes for over 50 vulnerabilities, with many of them being specific to its Galaxy smartphones and tablets. All of those fixes are now rapidly reaching its devices globally. A few more are joining the party today.

If you’re using any of the aforementioned Galaxy smartphones and haven’t yet received the May SMR, the wait won’t be much longer now. Watch out for a notification in the coming days. Or you can head over to Settings > Software update on your phone and tap on Download and install to check for updates manually. If it doesn’t show any pending updates, check again in a few days.
