Panaji: The cybercrime police station on Thursday booked Cuncolim residents Rohan Phal Dessai and Sairaj Phal Dessai for allegedly cheating a US national of over Rs 48 lakh by asking her to invest in their joint venture.
PI cybercrime Devendra Pingle said that his office received a complaint from the US national Pa Muas-Xiong, a resident of Porvorim that Rohan and Sairaj, with their common intention to cheat, befriended her in Porvorim. Pingle said that the duo then convinced her to invest in a business venture dealing in “computer-related activities” and thereafter, on the pretext of procuring a virtual office, to invest in office-based items and accessories, for recruiting employees and their salaries.
“The complainant transferred a total amount of over Rs48 lakh in the form of crypto currency (Bitcoins and USDT) thereby cheating the complainant by impersonation by using computer resources,” Pingle said. Cybercrime, Ribandar is investigating the case.
