MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) said on Wednesday that there was a 22.20 percent decrease in cybercrime cases recorded from September 2023 to December 2023 compared to the same time frame last year.
The PNP-ACG said there were only 4,362 cybercrime cases recorded so far from September to December 2023 compared to 5,607 cybercrime cases in 2022.
Most cybercrime cases were recorded in September 2023 at 1,322, while the least cases were recorded in December 2023 with 496 cases.
The PNP-ACG also noted that swindling, estafa, or online scam cases remains to be the highest-recorded category of cybercrime cases, with 2,622 cases from September to December 2022 and 1,182 cases from September to December 2023.
Meanwhile, the least-recorded category is computer-related fraud with 41 cases from September to December 2022 and 17 cases from September to December 2023.
Aside from cybercrime, the PNP also said that focus crimes had a 8.22 percent decrease from January 1, 2022 to December 19, 2022, to the same time frame this year.
The police force said that focus crimes decreased from 40,411 cases from last year to 37,089 this year.
