Cops To Take Fb Live Way For Cyber Crime Awareness | Kolkata News | #cybercrime | #computerhacker

Kolkata: Officers from the detective department’s cyber cell and bank fraud sections will organise an interactive programme on Facebook from next week to raise awareness on organized cyber crime, especially those involving e-wallets, Instagram and Telegram, and sextortion, along with cryptocurrency. The first programme will be held at 5pm on May 24 and will focus on Jamtara gangs.
“These frauds have seen a jump post pandemic. Hence, it is important to build awareness. We have decided to hold regular Facebook Live sessions where we wish to bring in experts who can help netizens understand certain terms and the best practices for safety of internet users. The idea of cyber hygiene will be explained,” said additional CP DC (cyber) Atul V.
Named “Jamtara Decoded”, the first session will discuss cyber crimes that transcend borders. “Officers of the anti-bank fraud section and cyber cell will interact with the public on Facebook to discuss cyber criminals and online fraudsters Popularly known as the ‘Jamtara Gang’,” an official said.
However, the cops will not take direct questions, but those who attend can send in queries that cops will subsequently answer.
The police will also hold a session with YouTubers, many of whom were duped by fraudsters in the name of increasing their viewership.
Jolted by the multiple cases of fraud across ATMs, social networking sites and e-commerce sites in the pandemic years, the detective department had organized its first Facebook live as part of an outreach programme in September 2021. But the practice was discontinued as netizens lost interest when their questions were not taken.
The police have also prepared a list of nine new-age modus operandi used by cyber fraudsters and have prepared specific advisories against each.
