The Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) Club at Capital High School received a $500 check today for the incentives they earned through the Teens in the Driver Seat program.
Teens in the Driver Seat is a peer-led program offered through the Washington Traffic Safety Commission (WTSC) to address the risks impacting young drivers such as speeding, distracted driving, and nighttime/drowsy. WTSC partners with State Farm to fund the incentives to schools.
The HOSA Club teacher at Capital High School, Rebekah Mattes, introduced the program to her students earlier this school year, and they successfully completed units related to seat belt safety and distracted driving to earn the incentives. The funds will be used to support ongoing club activities and travel expenses to the annual state HOSA conference.
Capital High School is the first in Thurston County to get the program off the ground and earn incentives, and all high schools in Thurston County are invited to participate in the program. Please contact Tara Tsehlana (Tara.Tsehlana@co.thurston.wa.us) for more information.
