CHENNAI: The cybercrime wing of the Tamil Nadu police has warned the public against falling prey to online fireworks scamsters and ending up losing their money. The state cybercrime wing has received at least 25 complaints about such online fireworks scamsters.
Cybercrime wing additional director general of police Sanjay Kumar said, “The scamsters post attractive advertisements about fireworks sale at cheaper prices. When the consumer calls the number mentioned in the advertisement, a customer care person informs him or her to share the screenshot after placing the order.”
The consumer sends the screenshot to the customer care number through WhatsApp. But there won’t be any Response. “The contact number and the website become unreachable. People’s hard-earned money is gone, and no fireworks are delivered,” he said.
